Chi Squared Significance Table. For a chi square test of the independence of two categorical variables we have a two way contingency table with r rows and c columns. The chi square distribution table is a table that shows the critical values of the chi square distribution.
If the test statistic is greater than the upper tail critical value or less than the lower tail critical value we reject the null hypothesis. Or just use the chi square calculator. Assuming that we have an alpha level of significance equal to 0 05 it is time to use the chi square distribution table.
In this table the number of degrees of freedom corresponds to the row that we will use.
For two sided tests the test statistic is compared with values from both the table for the upper tail critical values and the table for the lower tail critical values. See chi square test page for more details. The alpha level for the test common choices are 0 01 0 05 and 0 10 the following image shows the first 20 rows of the chi square distribution table with the degrees of freedom along the left side of the table and the alpha levels along the top of the table. The number of degrees of freedom is r 1 c 1.
